For anyone not in the know, iPhone 3.0 OS will be announce today, and with that I have a prediction!

Back in Septemeber ‘08 Macrumors reported that Apple were investigating the use of an “At a Glance” preview of various statuses on your iPhone without needing to unlock it. At the moment, you have to unlock your iPhone to find out SMS counts, Email counts etc etc… This new feature would give you all this data on the unlock screen, so you can quickly, “at a glance” see if you really do have any new messages.

I’ve got to say, this is the biggest issue for me with my iPhone and the one reason why I like my Blackberry. I don’t care about copy and paste, I just want to be able to see pieces of info as a dashboard BEFORE I’ve unlocked the phone. I sent Apple a request for this feature just before 2.0, it sounds like me amongst others had requested this – If 3.0 doesn’t include it, I will eat my hat!
