Unless my eyes are deceiving me, it appears that John Gruber (@gruber) has something to do with the Twitter Mac client “Tweetie“.
As you can see in the screenshot above, it clearly shows John Gruber’s Twitter Pic in the left hand menu with the @atebits account pic too which was posted by “apparent” app developer Loren Brichter via the @atebits Twitter account. This suggests that both the @gruber account and the @atebits account are configured to be used by the Tweetie client… Why would that be?
Certainly, John has pimped out Tweetie, offering coupon codes to the masses via Daring Fireball, but has never confirmed he has anything to do with the application.

In all previous screenshots by the Tweetie developers, the @gruber account has never made an appearance – the one above was a bit more off the cuff, responding to a number of replies to:
Will be interesting to watch how this unfolds… certainly, some sort of explanation as to why John Gruber’s account appears with the @atebits account would be compelling…

It’s not my account. It’s a test account from Tweetie author Loren Brichter that uses my icon:

I have no idea why it’s using my icon. Perhaps to test the alpha transparency?
It could be that Tweetie used John’s avatar to help promote the product. I am pretty sure a lot of people already like the UI. But if your avatar was in there wouldn’t you talk about it to the thousands of people that subscribe to your RSS feeds and follow you on twitter?
