Minor Tweaks to the Blog – ReTweeting & Twitter

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Every now and then I have a little play and tweak with the format of the blog to see if I can make anything better, more functional, and generally improve usability and distribution of content. This weekend I have put a few changes in place, specifically aiming at Twitter and retweeting – why? Because every blog should be utilizing Twitter if it’s trying to expose it’s content further afield.

Social WordPress Plugin

As discussed in a previous article – I built a social plugin for this WordPress blog which covers some default options, like RSS subscription, Delicious etc as well as displaying Digg, DZone and Reddit point-up buttons when users come specifically from that site.

The plugin does have a Twitter button, however its pretty basic, and just a static icon.

Today I have added a new retweet button from the website tweetmeme.com. Tweetmeme is a tweet aggregator, looking at popular links on Twitter and sticking them into categories – kinda like Digg but you don’t submit links to it. Originally I added the button to my own WordPress plugin, however I since noticed that TweetMeMe offer their own WordPress plugin themselves, giving even more flexibility.
